Club Med has launched its inaugural Meetings and Events Sustainability Report, a comprehensive source of key information to support companies with the implementation of sustainable initiatives at their events.

“The MICE industry is thriving with business leaders understanding the desire, need and benefits of human connection for employee productivity. With the business volume of the MICE sector of our business surging by 30 percent since 2019, we are thrilled to be launching the inaugural Club Med Meetings and Events Sustainability Report,” said Michelle Davis, general manager for Club Med Pacific.

Hands up

Club Med’s report is built on its commissioned survey of 200 key opinion leaders from a range of different businesses to understand the shift in sentiment towards sustainable events, their key drivers for implementing sustainable initiatives and their challenges when achieving these objectives.

Key insights from the analysis of the survey results include:

• 90 percent of those surveyed cite implementing sustainable initiatives when planning an event as important.
• The minimization of food waste and single use plastics are the top two priorities when planning a sustainable event with two in three (65 percent) opting for these activities.
• One in three (33 percent) of those surveyed shared that aligning with corporate values and missions were their biggest driver for implementing sustainable initiatives.
• More than one in three (35 percent) companies do not have a CSR Policy to follow when organizing an event.
• Less than one in five (15 percent) are unsure if their company has a CSR Policy in place.

“Sustainability has been at the heart of the Club Med ethos since its inception almost 75 years ago. Over the years we’ve implemented a range of sustainable initiatives that strive to empower local communities and minimize the impact on the environment. As the industry grows and the needs of our clients evolve, we want to be there on that journey with them and support them every step of the way,” said Davis.

The introduction of the Club Med Meetings and Events Sustainability Report comes after Club Med was crowned the winner of “Most Popular Accommodation Group” at the National Travel Industry Awards.
