Hyatt Hotels Corporation and RLH Properties has announced the planned renovation and rebranding of Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya  in Mexico to Alila Mayakoba, marking the debut of the brand in Latin American and the Caribbean.

Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya (shown above) is expected to suspend operations on March 2, 2025, and reopen under the new brand later this year.

“The planned transformation of this beloved resort into a magnificent Alila Mayakoba will inspire guests and ignite curiosity, incorporating local traditions into the guest experience with thoughtful conservation practices that make a positive impact, allowing guests the ability to be involved in the preservation of Mayakoba,” said Pete Sears, group president, Americas, Hyatt. “As the first Alila branded hotel in Latin America and the Caribbean, we are proud to soon introduce a new level of luxury, sustainability and impactful wellbeing that inspires guests to interact with the local community and truly immerse themselves in an authentic experience.”

Sustainability and well-being are integral parts of the Alila brand ethos. Set in 148 acres of mangrove, protecting wildlife and biodiversity, the resort will be designed and renovated with minimal impact to the surrounding environment and will operate under rigorous sustainability tenets when it reopens.

The renovation will see a reduction in the number of guestrooms and increase the number of suites to 40 percent of the total inventory.

In addition, the property will continue the brand’s commitment to wellbeing with indoor and outdoor wellness spaces, intentional programming led by experts and local healers, a renovated spa with outdoor communal hydrotherapy amenities, extensive gardens to be used in guest programming, and a new Temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath supporting therapeutic and spiritual wellbeing.

On the food and beverage side, Alila Mayakoba will feature a curated coffee shop, a three-meal restaurant with an on-site organic garden, two signature restaurants, a new lobby lounge serving artisanal cocktails using local ingredients, a beach-front restaurant and a new beach club. All culinary experiences will depict the brand’s restorative, meaningful and honest approach to food and wine, deeply rooted in place and people with garden-to-table elements.

Finally, Alila Mayakoba will open with refreshed indoor and outdoor meeting and events spaces.

“With expertise in luxury and ultra-luxury hotels and residences in Mexico and the Caribbean, we are thrilled to pursue our next chapter with Hyatt with plans to introduce the Alila brand to the world-renowned destination of Mayakoba,” said Luis Duran, CEO, RLH Properties. “Our commitment to environmental responsibility is a key aspect of our long-term strategy and has become fundamental to the success of our company. Alila Mayakoba will be a testament of our deep respect for the community, allowing guests to connect with our protected ecosystems on a deeper level.”
