Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel is now open, following an extensive renovation. It is the brand’s first property in Austria.
The five-star luxury urban resort is housed in a building designed by the celebrated architect Baron Theophil Edvard von Hansen for the 1873 World’s Trade Fair. Originally a hotel, it also served as a residential complex and a public administration building before returning to its hospitality roots in 2011. Today, it is one of the finest examples of Viennese Neo-Renaissance architecture, and its public spaces feature many of Hansen’s signature elements, including original marble floors, stucco ceilings, Ionic columns and heritage-listed staircases.
Located on the Ringstrasse in Vienna’s historic financial district, it reopens with 152 fully-renovated guestrooms and suites. Design details in accommodations include marble bathrooms, triple-glazed windows for uninterrupted sleep, 3.5-meter ceilings and oversized windows. Select rooms and suites also feature balconies overlooking the Ringstrasse.

One of the highlights of Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna is its 2,900+ square-foot Presidential Suite. Framed by seven French balconies, it has a lounge centered on a grand piano, a full dining room, and a wellness space anchored by a window-side marble bath. On request, it expands to four bedrooms, reaching more than 4,300 square feet.
The hotel also offers three dining venues. Edvard is its Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant. Under the guidance of head chef Paul Gaumauf, it serves avant-garde cuisine made with local ingredients. Theo’s Lounge & Bar, nestled in the former inner courtyard, is a Viennese coffeehouse during the day and a cocktail destination at night. And the newly-launched Brasserie Sophie, named after Hansen’s wife, reimagines Austrian cuisine through a global lens.
Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna is also home to an 8,600-square-foot Anantara Spa. It has six treatment rooms (including a couples’ suite and a women-only area), a Finnish sauna, a Hammam-style steam bath, and a sanarium (a sauna with lower-temperature and higher humidity than a Finnish sauna).
For events, the hotel has Vienna’s largest ballroom. Accommodating up to 265 guests, it offers ample natural light, independent street access, and a Hansen-designed foyer. Other MICE spaces include an executive boardroom, a private reading room, and eight additional meeting spaces.
Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna is a 25-minute drive from Vienna International Airport.
