ME Lisbon slated to open in 2024

ME Lisbon, Meliá Hotels International’s first luxury ME-brand hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, is currently under construction.

Scheduled to open in 2024, the hotel is located on the corner of the downtown avenues of Antonio Augusto de Aguiar and Fontes Pereira de Melo, alongside the Eduardo VII Park and Marquês de Pombal Square.

Portuguese architect João Paciênca designed the building, which which will feature a semi-transparent glass façade and will employ the most efficient and sustainable technology to minimize its environmental footprint. For example, the heat generated by the cooling systems in the hotel will be used as an energy source for the hot water boilers.

The luxury lifestyle property will offer 213 guestrooms, an à la carte restaurant and other dining options, and a Radio Rooftop Bar, one of the ME brand’s most popular hallmarks.

ME Lisbon will also have a gym and fully-equipped spa and health club, complete with an indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath.

In addition, it will have more than 6,450 square feet of meeting and event space across 11 flexible event rooms.

ME Lisbon’s interior spaces are being designed by the Broadway Malyan Studio. Inspired by the idea of an “unexpected” Lisbon, the design is influenced by some of the key attractions of the city, such as the arches or color of the trees on the Avenida da Liberdade.

The property, which is owned by the Discovery Portugal Real Estate Fund, allows Meliá Hotels International to continue to make progress with a growth strategy focused primarily on premium and luxury hotels. In addition to the ME Lisbon, The ME by Meliá brand will open at least three more hotels in 2023 and 2024 in Malaga (Spain), Malta and Guadalajara (Mexico).

Meliá currently has two hotels in the Portuguese capital. In addition to ME Lisbon, the city’s first INNSiDE by Meliá hotel will open in 2024. The country is becoming one of Meliá’s fastest growing markets, with the seven hotels currently under development adding to the nine that are already open.
