The Tierra del Fuego archipelago forms the southernmost part of Argentina. Ushuaia sits on a hill at its tip, surrounded by the Martial Mountains and Beagle Channel. Nicknamed The End of the World, the city of approximately 82,000 people serves as a gateway for Antarctica cruises, tours to Isa Yécapasela (Penguin Island), and other adventure experiences in Patagonia.

The project aims to strengthen the destination’s tourism infrastructure, with a focus on developing corporate and cultural tourism. It will also result in the creation of some 200 new jobs and the development of a network of local suppliers to meet the demand for goods and services required by the hotel.

“This is a project that was created from a collaborative vision and having Meliá Hotels International involved in it is a fundamental milestone,” said José Luis Alonso, CEO, Grupo Mirgor. “We are committed to expanding the economy of Tierra del Fuego. To this end, we are convinced that it is necessary to be able to integrate capacities and wills that allow us to develop projects framed within this objective.”

The chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, said: “Following our expansion plan in the LATAM region, we see great potential for our luxury brands in Argentina, so we are very excited about this alliance with a business group like Mirgor, which has been investing in Tierra del Fuego for more than 40 years. We are very honored to work together to make this project a reality.”

Meliá Hotels International currently has four hotels in Argentina, including the Gran Meliá Iguazú, which has been recognized for the third consecutive year as the best hotel in Argentina by the World Travel Awards.
