The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand has welcomed its sixth property in China—Commune by the Great Wall.

The 176-key hotel is located just over an hour’s drive from downtown Beijing in the foothills of the Shuiguan Mountains and is within walking distance of The Great Wall.

Originally conceived as a private collection of contemporary architecture designed by 12 Asian architects, Commune by the Great Wall received a special prize at the 2002 La Biennale di Venezia and was named a “New Architectural Wonder of China” by Business Week in 2005.

Today, the property’s 176 rooms and suites are spread across 36 villas, including Cantilever House, Bamboo Wall, Shared House, Forest House, and a collection of resort-inspired villas where most rooms feature a private terrace.

Each villa has its own unique design theme. For example, the Japanese-inspired Bamboo Wall has five bedrooms and a tea room, and the Forest House is a cozy six-bedroom hideaway designed to reflect the woods that surround it.

Food and beverage options at the property include The Commune Kitchen, which offers refined Chinese cuisine with an emphasis on the authentic flavours of China’s northern region, and The Poolside Cafè and Bar, which serves light bites.

Guests can also select a bespoke dining experience such as a gourmet picnic on the Great Wall or a special meal prepared in-villa by a personal chef.

The property also has a spa with 15 treatment rooms, a fitness center, and indoor and outdoor event venues. The latter includes 1,076 square feet of daylight-filled, multifunctional meeting space in the Suitcase Villa; the 9,213-square-foot Commune Ballroom, which has an outdoor courtyard; and the Commune Lawn.
