Hôtel Lutetia, the only Palace hotel on Paris’s Left Bank, has joined the Mandarin Oriental portfolio.

On April 3, 2025, the legendary property unveiled its new identity as Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris. It is the hospitality company’s second five-star hotel in France’s capital city, complementing Mandarin Oriental Paris, which is located on Rue Saint-Honoré on the Right Bank.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental, said welcoming the landmark Palace into the company’s portfolio marked a new chapter for Mandarin Oriental. “In addition to our beloved Saint Honoré gem, with Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris, we celebrate not only the rich heritage of the Left Bank but also our vision for the future of luxury hospitality – where history, culture and legendary service come together to create unforgettable experiences. Our dual presence in Paris emphasizes our deep commitment to this iconic city, offering our guests two distinct expressions of Mandarin Oriental’s hospitality.”

Hôtel Lutetia was founded in 1910 by the Boucicaut family, owners of Le Bon Marché. Designed with a blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, it quickly became a hub for the city’s intellectual and artistic elite, hosting luminaries such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Charles de Gaulle, and James Joyce, who completed his masterpiece Ulysses during his stay. During World War II, it was requisitioned by the occupying forces, then, after liberation, it served as a refuge for displaced individuals returning from the camps. In contemporary times, cultural icons such as Sonia Rykiel, David Lynch, and Serge Gainsbourg helped cement its status as a meeting place.

More recently, Hôtel Lutetia underwent a comprehensive renovation led by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, reopening in 2018. The renovation preserved its heritage while introducing contemporary luxuries. Today, the hotel, which is owned by the Akirov family, offers:

  • 184 guestrooms, 46 suites and three apartments, including the “Grand Appartement Rive Gauche,” which is adorned with original artworks and rare antiques, and Appartment Eiffel, which features a 750-square-foot terrace with 360-views of Paris;
  • two restaurants and two bars – Brasserie Lutetia, Saint-Germain Salon, Bar Aristide, and Bar Joséphine;
  • Asasha Spa, which has a 17-meter pool, a sauna, a hammam, a hot tube and a state-of-the-art gym;
  • and seven dedicated meeting and event venues, the largest of which can accommodate up to 260 people.
