The Peninsula London, The Peninsula’s second property in Europe, will open this year.
The newly-built property, which was designed by Hopkins Architects, is located at Hyde Park Corner in the city’s upscale Belgravia neighbourhood. It offers 190 guestrooms and suites along with 25 luxury residences; three drink and dine venues; event and meeting space; and a luxury spa.
The hotel’s guestrooms, suites and public spaces feature appointments by architect Peter Marino, as well as exclusive bespoke offerings from top British artisans, including Jenny Packham, Claude Bosi, Timothy Han and more than 40 artists from The Royal Drawing School. Many of London’s iconic attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Wellington Arch, The Royal Parks and Harrods are within a 15-minute walk of its Grosvenor Place entrance.
“We are excited to introduce The Peninsula London to the world. As a long term investor and owner operator, this represents a significant milestone and achievement for our group. London is one of the world’s most dynamic cities and we are looking forward to serving local people and international guests with The Peninsula’s legendary hospitality,” says Clement Kwok, managing director and CEO of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd., The Peninsula’s parent company. “The Belgravia neighbourhood is perfectly aligned with our commitment to offering an exceptional standard of excellence and luxury.”
“The arrival of the Peninsula London marks the culmination of a remarkable collaborative journey,” said Peter Borer, COO, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Ltd. “The beautiful design of the property is the result of years of creative efforts by some of the most ground-breaking architects, designers, and creative partners in the industry. The hotel is a showpiece, not only for The Peninsula, but for this storied part of London.”
Highlights of The Peninsula London include:
- An expansive, off-street courtyard, landscaped by world-renowned designer Enzo Enea in the style of a classic English garden with cascading ivy and wisteria vies, and two 120-year-old Japanese maples;
- A luxury automotive fleet that includes four bespoke hybrid Betley Bentaygas, an electrified 1960 vintage Austin taxi, and a restored 1935 Rolls Royce Phantom.
- The Peninsula Suite, the hotel’s most opulent, features a private screening room and fitness centre and access to exclusive VIP drop-off and pick-up service at the underground car park. This suite can be interconnected with as many as six other rooms and suites on the floor to create a private apartment-like environment totalling nearly 16,000 square feet – one of the largest in London.
- The George Ballroom, a grand space that is served by two elevators large enough for motorcars and can accommodate up to 450 banquet guests.
- A three-room rooftop restaurant called Brooklands, featuring a design by London architects Archer Humphryes that is inspired by the classic eras of British aviation and motorsport. It is comprised of a sleek main dining room with outdoor terrace, an automotive-themed bar, and an exclusive cigar tasting lounge. The three spaces are accessed from the hotel lobby via dedicated elevators, styled in the manner of hot-air balloons with wicker-lined interiors.
- Canton Blue, an innovative Chinese restaurant featuring menus by Chef Dicky To that celebrate the spice-trade union of Asian and British cultures.
- The Peninsula Spa and Wellness Centre, which includes a fully-equipped fitness centre and a dramatically lit 25m indoor swimming pool. A dedicated Wellness Portal will also provide guests with in-room, round-the-clock access to wellness programs like guided strength-training routines, aromatherapy self-care rituals, and audio meditations.
