The latest addition to Accor Group’s MGallery Collection – Hotel Sosei Sapporo – opened last month on the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Located in the city’s Sosei East neighborhood, the property is housed in a heritage private residence and is part of the Sapporo Factory Complex, a shopping and entertainment development built on the site of the historic Kaitakushi Brewery, the predecessor to Sapporo Beer.

The hotel, which has been renovated to add touches of modernity while maintaining and celebrating Japanese tradition and design, has 118 guestrooms. They feature soft lighting, bouquets of flowers, Japanese paintings depicting the area’s history, furniture inspired by pieces imported to Hokkaido in the 19th century, and in the bathroom, bath salts made from hops.

Sapporo, which is the fifth largest city in Japan, is renowned for its snow (it’s the second snowiest city in the world) and as the birthplace of Japanese beer.

Hotel Sosei Sapporo embraces the latter distinction. References to beer are found throughout the hotel. The decor of its on-site restaurant was inspired by old German breweries. In the bar, the design of the fireplace echoes the curves of ancient copper beer kilns. And a three-dimensional sculpture symbolizing wild hop by local artist Rie Kawakami graces the lobby.

Other amenities and facilities include a 538-square-foot meeting space that can accommodate groups of up to eight people, and a fitness center.

Centrally-located, Hotel Sosei Sapporo is within walking distance of several of the city’s top attractions, including the Sapporo Beer Museum, the TV Tower and Odori Park. It is a 45-minute drive from New Chitose International Airport and 15 minutes from Okadama Airport, which serves domestic flights. Sapporo Station (rail services) and Bus Center-Mae subway station are also nearby.

“Hotel Sosei Sapporo – MGallery Collection invites you to discover the city’s rich cultural heritage,” said Tadashi Kitahara, the hotel’s manager.

MGallery Collection is a portfolio of boutique hotels with unique stories and original design.
