ICCA and EarthCheck have entered into a landmark sustainability partnership. Unveiled during the 64th ICCA Congress in Porto, Portugal, the collaboration marks a pivotal moment in ICCA’s mission to embed sustainability and measurable climate action across the global business events industry.
Under a new two-year agreement, EarthCheck becomes ICCA’s sustainability partner, reinforcing ICCA’s commitment to reducing environmental impact, strengthening best practices, and empowering its global network to take meaningful action.
ICCA CEO Dr. Senthil Gopinath said: “This partnership with EarthCheck is a defining moment for ICCA and the global business events industry. Sustainability is no longer optional—it is fundamental to how we operate and grow. By combining ICCA’s global network with EarthCheck’s scientific expertise, we are empowering our members to deliver events that create positive outcomes for people, places, and the planet. Together, we are setting a clear path toward a low-carbon future.”
To launch the partnership, EarthCheck applied its EventCalculator tool to measure the carbon footprint of the 2025 ICCA Congress in Porto. These insights will inform ICCA’s long-term sustainability roadmap and set clear, evidence-based targets aligned with the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative.
EarthCheck CEO Stewart Moore said: “Both ICCA and EarthCheck recognize that sustainability must be measurable, transparent, and actionable. This partnership strengthens the industry’s ability to act with purpose. ICCA connects a vast global community, and EarthCheck brings the metrics and methodology to support credible action. Together, we can help destinations and organizers make informed decisions that create real impact.”
The partnership will see ICCA and EarthCheck collaborate on sustainability strategies, events, training, and communications, ensuring sustainability principles are integrated across ICCA’s operations and major activities. ICCA members will also gain access to EarthCheck’s guidance, tools, and certification support to advance their own sustainability goals and reporting practices.
Together, ICCA and EarthCheck aim to accelerate progress across the global business events community, demonstrating how science-based frameworks and collective leadership can help the sector thrive in a low-carbon future. This collaboration underscores ICCA’s vision for a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable global events industry — one where progress is measured, shared, and celebrated.
