In response to the growing demand for luxury accommodations in Spain’s capital city, Meliá Hotels International is opening a fourth hotel in Madrid.
The 137-room property, formerly known as Madrid Atocha Affiliated by Meliá, has undergone a complete renovation and will reopen in May as Casa de las Artes, Member of Meliá Collection.
Casa de Las Artes comprises four interconnected buildings, the most notable of which is a palatial structure dating back to 1913 that now houses the hotel’s common areas. It is located in the city’s Las Letras (literary) district, between Atocha Street, a major thoroughfare in the city center, and Moratin Street, which is known for its antique shops and book stores. Iconic cultural institutions such as the Prado Museum, Thyssen Museum, and Reina Sofia Museum are less than a kilometer away.
Meliá says that Casa de Las Artes pays homage to the great writers who shaped the neighborhood’s streets during the Spanish Golden Age. As a tribute to author Miguel de Cervantes and the Cervantes Society, every room includes an engraving by Gustave Doré created for the 1869 edition of the literary classic, Don Quixote.
The property also features an innovative, restaurant-theater concept that will see a live show unfolding around diners. Its common spaces include a library, a private cinema room, a landscaped inner courtyard with a glass roof, and a thermal pool. Casa de Las Artes also has a fitness center and several meeting and event rooms.
The renovation of the property was led by architect Álvaro Sans and interior designer Adriana Sans, both from ASAH studio. Madrid architect Pedro Alcaraz oversaw the executive project.
As the first Meliá Collection in Madrid, the opening of Casa de Las Artes will mark another major milestone in the Spanish hospitality company’s strategic growth in the luxury segment and its commitment to repositioning its portfolio with a focus on quality and distinctiveness.
